For years, the U.S. government has been critical of China and Iran for their state run control of the Internet. However now, the US Congress is contemplating a law that would give the U.S. government the power to censor India’s Internet.
Their argument is that many websites in India violate U.S. copyright and trademarks, and that the Indian government has failed to control this. However, this would effect internet use by all individuals in India. The move is draconian and tramples on the very notion of FREE SPEECH!!!
This new law will give the U.S. government and corporations the power to force service providers and search engines to block websites in India JUST ON THE BASIS OF ALLEGATIONS (a la Julian Assange) WITHOUT ANY KIND OF TRIAL OR LEGAL SYSTME IN PLACE!!
